Baby Turtles’ First Life Challenge

Based on my previous article about Turtle Babies, we can learn more about the baby turtle’s first life challenge. BBC Earth Green Turtle’s Battle for survival video shows their instant challenge. Once baby turtles crack out of their eggs, they return to their mothers’ ocean.

Crawling on the sands
Leaving tiny footprints onto the dry sands
Leaving tiny footprints onto wet sands
Anticipating for their first challenge courageously
Great waves pull them into the deep water
Floating in the sea
Submerge into the ocean
Flap their flippers
Swim according to the great current flow
Feeding in their own water land
Growing up in the immense water

When it was their turn to be the mother, they will return to the same beach as their mothers. Dig a great hole to lay their eggs. Then they return to their ocean.

The BBC Earth video makes me question and wonder. Aren’t the mother turtle excited to see their babies crack out? What is the mother turtle doing alone in the ocean by herself? Is the father turtle with her? Why is she alone?

Don’t every parent are enthusiastic to see their newborn babies? Let the prehistoric turtle marvels you. Once the baby turtle pops out of its eggshell, it has a reunion with its parents. Then they return to the remote part of the sea. Life is so full of love and care from their own kinds. When the mother turtle has the second baby, father and baby turtle will accompany her to the beach. Dig the sand together. She hatches the egg. Cover it. Return to the sea. Taking turns to anticipate their second baby.

I used to keep turtles but too messy. They always seemed to try to get somewhere else with a sense like homing pigeons. I interpret that to mean they don’t like being pets and want to be somewhere else. .

Maybe. Personally, it depends on the turtle itself. Some turtles don’t like being pets. Some turtles like being pets. There are two opposite instances. Or maybe there are more.

Carl, really appreciate your sharing from your personal life.
